An early Dutch edition of The Proud Heart by Nobel laureate Pearl S. Buck, published by Gottmer in Haarlem. This is the Dutch translation of This Proud Heart, originally published in 1938, a novel Buck wrote during the period when she enjoyed international recognition.

This edition clearly breathes the interwar period: a sober linen binding, understated typography, and the characteristic, slightly yellowed paper that only time can create. The binding and cover illustration were done by Rein van Looy, which also makes the book graphically interesting.

The copy shows visible signs of wear. The spine is damaged and partly detached, but still present. The book block itself is in better condition than the binding suggests: pages are complete and show normal aging without severe damage. This makes the book still excellent to read and at the same time remarkably decorative.

An authentic pre-war book with character, ideal for lovers of literary history, interwar editions, or books with visible traces of time.
