A characterful set of two vintage Japanese tin storage boxes from the mid-20th century.

The tins are finished in deep black with red and gold border decoration, depicting classic oriental court scenes. The lids feature a crane motif against a red sun – a typical Japanese export theme from the 1950s and 1960s.

The inside is finished in gold, giving the tins a warm appearance, both closed and open. Originally intended for tea or delicacies, today they are mainly decorative or suitable for light storage.

The large tin shows slight deformation and therefore does not close completely tightly. Both tins show normal signs of wear consistent with age.
