Japanese Lacquer Box c. 1900 – Hand-Painted Bird & Landscape – 12 cm

A refined Japanese lacquer box from the early 20th century.

This oval box is finished in warm tortoiseshell-imitation lacquer with a hand-painted gold decoration of birds, flowers, and a serene landscape with pavilions. The depiction is applied in a subtly recessed area, emphasizing its artisanal character.

The inside is lacquered in black, and the box feels remarkably light – characteristic of Japanese export lacquerware from the Meiji / Taishō period.

The decoration is largely intact and still shows a warm glow. The edge shows clear signs of age and some damage, consistent with the object's age.

A characterful collector's item or an atmospheric decorative piece with authentic patina.
