Japanese Eggshell Porcelain Mocha Set – Richly Gilded and Hand-Painted
A refined Japanese mocha service from the interwar period, crafted from exceptionally thin eggshell porcelain and richly gilded with etched gold decorations.
The cups are hand-painted with figurative depictions in cartouches, surrounded by cloud motifs, crescent moons, and subtle relief details in gold. The porcelain is remarkably thin and translucent, characteristic of export eggshell from the 1930s-40s.
The combination of the delicate size (6 cm high), the abundant gold, and the refined brushwork gives the service a distinct Art Deco allure.
The set is in very neat vintage condition with minor, age-appropriate wear to the gold.
