Hille Collector's Albums – De Hoge Veluwe I, II & III – Interwar Savings Albums – Rein Stuurman – c. 1930s
A time when biscuits still brought education.
This charming three-part set "De Hoge Veluwe" was published during the interbellum by the Zaandam cookie and rusk factory Hille. Children collected nature pictures with their purchases, which they carefully pasted into these pocket albums at home.
What remains is more than just advertising —
it is a tangible piece of Dutch cultural and natural historical heritage.
The albums are illustrated after watercolors by Rein Stuurman and show flora, fauna, and landscapes of De Hoge Veluwe National Park. Deer, buzzards, hawks, wild rabbits — carefully printed in warm, soft colors that still surprise.
The set consists of three parts (I, II, and III).
Some pictures are missing, but the majority are present. The albums are in good interbellum condition with slight discoloration and signs of use appropriate for their age.
