Handmade Studio Ceramic Sculpture – Ceremonial Rowboat with Bird Head – Unique
A unique studio piece with symbolic power.
This handmade ceramic sculpture from Atelier Schooneman represents a stylized ceremonial rowing boat, featuring a striking bird's head bow. The object subtly alludes to ancient cultures in which boats symbolized transition, journey, and ritual.
The hull is entirely hand-built from dark stoneware and features carefully placed perforations that suggest oarlocks. The decoration on the stern is engraved and filled with glaze, which gives the surface depth and texture. The glossy accents on the head and neck contrast with the matte, earthy body.
This is a unique piece – not a serial production – made by “Lya” within Atelier Schooneman.
A sculptural object with a stately appearance, intended as a work of art and not as a functional vessel.
