The Principal Religions 1868 - Dr. A. Pierson - A.C. Kruseman, Haarlem
Original antique edition from 1868 of The Principal Religions – History of Roman Catholicism up to the Council of Trent by Dr. A. Pierson, published by A.C. Kruseman in Haarlem.
This impressive 29 cm tall book is bound in a richly gilded 19th-century publisher's binding with decorative blind stamping and gilt printing on the front cover and spine. The symbolism on the spine (cross, tablets of the law) and the refined ornamentation give the book a distinctly classical appearance.
Inside is a large lithographic image of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The interior is remarkably clean and fresh for a book over 150 years old.
The binding is sturdy, the book block is tight and complete. Only minimal signs of age appropriate for its years.
A stately 19th-century academic work with strong decorative and historical value. Very suitable as a collector's item or as an impressive decorative piece in a library or interior.
