The Principal Religions 1868 - Dr. A. Pierson - A.C. Kruseman, Haarlem
Ziggy's Collection
Original antique edition from 1868 of De Voornaamste Godsdiensten – Geschiedenis van het Roomsch-Katholicisme tot op het Concilie van Trente (The Principal Religions – History of Roman Catholicism up to the Council of Trent) by Dr. A. Pierson, published by A.C. Kruseman in Haarlem.
This impressive 29 cm tall book is bound in a richly gilded 19th-century publisher's binding with decorative blind stamping and gold lettering on the front cover and spine. The symbolism on the spine (cross, tablets of the law) and the refined ornamentation give the book a distinctly classical appearance.
Inside is a large lithographic illustration of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The interior is remarkably clean and fresh for a book over 150 years old.
The binding is sturdy, the book block tight and complete. Only minimal signs of age consistent with its age.
A stately 19th-century academic work with strong decorative and historical value. Very suitable as a collector's item or as an impressive decorative piece in a library or interior.
