The Hague in Our Time - Johan Gram - 1968 European Library - 80 Illustrations - Cloth with Dust Jacket
A beautifully published reprint of ’s-Gravenhage in Onzen Tijd by Johan Gram, originally published in 1893 and reissued in 1968 by the Europese Bibliotheek in Zaltbommel.
This richly illustrated work offers a late 19th-century view of The Hague and Scheveningen. Chapters cover, among other things, the Binnenhof, Noordeinde Palace, the Scheveningse Bosjes, the Jewish Quarter, Huis ten Bosch, and city life in all its facets. The book contains 80 illustrations and three photo-chromo reproductions by artists such as Bosboom, Israëls, Weissenbruch, and Rochussen – names closely associated with the Hague School.
The execution is classic: green linen binding with gold print on the front cover and spine, with the original dust jacket. The interior is in very neat condition; the dust jacket shows discoloration but has protected the book excellently.
An atmospheric and well-maintained city book, ideal for lovers of The Hague, Dutch art history, or 19th-century city portraits.
