Decorative religious icon with a relief depiction of Mary with the Christ Child.

The relief depicts Mary with a crown and the Child Jesus in a style that clearly refers to traditional Byzantine iconography. Around the depiction are the classical abbreviations MP and IC XC, referring to Mater Theou (Mother of God) and Iesous Christos.

The image is made of a pressed metal relief with a warm brass-colored patina and mounted on a wooden back panel. The background has a fine hammered texture, giving the relief extra depth.

This type of devotional icon was widely used in the 20th century as religious wall decoration in Catholic and Orthodox households.
