Dutch Pocket Bible with Silver Clasp – Gilt Edges – 1870 Haarlem

€95,00

Antique Dutch pocket Bible from 1870, bound in leather with a decorative silver clasp.

This compact edition of the New Testament was printed by Johannes Enschedé en Zonen in Haarlem and J. Brandt en Zoon in Amsterdam, two renowned Dutch printers of religious works in the 19th century. The text follows the classic Statenvertaling (States Translation) as established during the Synod of Dort (1618–1619).

The book is bound in leather with blind-stamped decoration and a characteristic closing flap. The front is secured with a beautifully engraved silver clasp, a detail often used for personal devotional books or gift Bibles.

The pages feature a gilded edge, which is still remarkably well preserved. Due to its compact size, this type of Bible was often carried during travels or used as a personal prayer book.

A special piece of religious printing that is both historically interesting and decoratively strong in an interior or book collection.
