Franklin Porcelain Japanese Teacup | Kachō Jūnikagetsu | 1985
Vintage Japanese porcelain teacup from 1985 by Franklin Porcelain, from the limited series Kachō Jūnikagetsu, or “Flowers and Birds of the Twelve Months”.
This version is richly decorated with blooming peonies in various shades of pink and red, surrounded by fine green foliage and flying swallows. The floral and bird motif aligns with the Japanese tradition of kachō-e, which centers on plants, birds, and the changing of the seasons.
The fine white porcelain is polychrome decorated all around. Cobalt blue geometric decorative bands and fine gold-colored rims frame the colorful scene.
The underside bears the original Japanese Franklin Porcelain mark with the series name 花鳥十二ヵ月, the designation for the limited edition, the year 1985, and JAPAN.
Part of a twelve-piece collector's series, with each cup featuring its own unique flower and bird depiction.
