Religious Wall Hanging ‘Lord, help me’ | VVHS Amsterdam | c. 1930-1936

A characterful Dutch religious wall plaque from the interwar period, issued by the Association for the Distribution of the Holy Scriptures in Amsterdam.

The wooden board features the short biblical prayer “Lord, help me,” surrounded by a hand-painted depiction of lilies of the valley in white, yellow, and various shades of green. The natural wood grain forms the background, finished with a gold-colored border line and a dark outer edge.

On the back is the original paper label of the Association for the Distribution of the Holy Scriptures, formerly located at Keizersgracht 328 in Amsterdam. The inscription “Sale prohibited” serves as a reminder of the original function of such wall texts as evangelism material distributed by the association.

The combination of the original label, the painted wooden execution, and the preserved hanging cord makes this a lovely piece of Dutch Protestant-Christian history from the 1930s.

The plaque is in good authentic condition with signs of age and use, including light wear and some small spots of paint loss along the edges and corners. These are consistent with its age and clearly visible in the photos.
