The New Testament - Leather Pocket Bible with Gilt Edges - Inscription 1929

$293.00

A characterful Dutch pocket Bible with a brown leather flap binding, gilt page edges, and a handwritten memento from 1929.

This compact edition of the New Testament was prepared by the Nederlandsche Bijbel-Compagnie, with J. Brandt en Zoon of Amsterdam and Johannes Enschedé en Zonen of Haarlem as publishers.

In addition to the New Testament, the book contains, among other things, the Psalms with musical notation, Christian prayers, and liturgical forms.

The leather cover features a combination of smooth and finely textured leather, finished with a subtle decorative line. The gilt edges give the book a polished appearance.

Of special note is the handwritten inscription at the front, dated October 24, 1929, in which the book is dedicated as a memento of a profession of faith.

A beautiful historical church book for enthusiasts of antique religious books, bookbindings, and personal history.

Condition

Antique condition with visible signs of wear. The leather cover shows wear on the edges and corners. The original clasp is no longer complete and is not functional.

The connection between the cover and the book block is weakened and the endpapers are damaged. The rest of the book block is, as far as can be seen, in good readable condition with normal age-related discoloration.
