Ziggy's Collection

French Catholic prayer book from 1890, published by Dalpayrat et Depelley in Limoges. This small Paroissien Romain combines a richly decorated leather binding with metal fittings, a functional decorative clasp, and fully gilt edges.

The dark leather binding is relief-decorated on both the front and back, with a large cross as the central motif. Ornate metal corner pieces and edge guards frame the cover, while the quatrefoil clasp completes the original design. The interior is also remarkably refined, featuring gold-toned floral endpapers, red-printed decorative borders, and a colored chromolithographic frontispiece of the Madonna and Child.

The book contains prayers and Catholic liturgical texts for Sundays and major church holidays, supplemented by, among others, prayers for communion and confession. A characterful example of the richly executed French devotional items from the late 19th century.

The book is in authentic antique condition. The leather shows clear wear, especially on the spine and hinges, and the binding is fragile in places. The interior shows signs of aging and use. The decorative fittings, the book clasp, the gilt edges, and the colored frontispiece are still present.
