Joost van den Vondel - His life and his works - Alexander Baumgartner - C.L. van Langenhuysen Amsterdam 1886

An original 19th-century edition from 1886 of Joost van den Vondel – Zijn leven en zijne werken [Joost van den Vondel – His life and his works], written by Alexander Baumgartner and published in Amsterdam by C.L. van Langenhuysen.

The book is bound in a green cloth publisher's binding with gold lettering and measures 22 cm in height.

What makes this copy special are several pencil drawings in the book, including a landscape drawing with a windmill at the bottom of the title page. The drawings appear to be signed, but the signature cannot be identified with certainty.

The binding shows signs of age and slight fraying at the spine, consistent with a book nearly 140 years old. The interior is complete.

A characterful antique book with personal history - literary and decoratively appealing.
