Vintage Japanese porcelain teacup from 1985 by Franklin Porcelain, from the limited series Kachō Jūnikagetsu, or “Flowers and Birds of the Twelve Months”.

This edition represents February and is decorated with an old plum tree full of pink blossoms and small birds. The blooming plum, ume, is one of the classic Japanese seasonal motifs and heralds the approaching spring at the end of winter.

The fine white porcelain is decorated with polychrome designs all around and finished with characteristic cobalt blue geometric decorative bands and fine gold-colored trim. The scene wraps around the cup, making a different part of the landscape visible from every angle.

On the bottom is the original Japanese Franklin Porcelain mark with the series name 花鳥十二ヵ月, designation for the limited edition, year 1985, and JAPAN.

Part of a twelve-piece collector's series, in which each cup represents a different month and seasonal scene.
