A particularly early edition of Adrienne ou les Conseils d'une Institutrice by the French writer Alida de Savignac, published in Tours by R. Pornin et Cie in 1846.

The book belongs to the nineteenth-century Gymnase Moral d'Éducation series and is a tangible example of the moralizing and educational children's literature of this period. The work focuses on the upbringing of young girls, thus providing a characteristic insight into the pedagogical and social views of mid-nineteenth-century France.

The original romantic publisher's cloth binding is particularly attractive. The cream-colored cloth is richly decorated with gold-colored ornaments and blue accents, with an extensive decorative pattern on both the boards and the spine. Inside are an illustrated title page and engraved illustrations.

A book now approximately 180 years old in which content, illustration, and original binding together form a fine historical whole.
