Large Antique Devotional Cross Pendant – Christ Corpus – c. 1900

Antique devotional crucifix pendant with a corpus of Christ, crafted in metal and wood, presumably dating from the early 20th century.

The cross consists of a dark wooden core within a metal frame, upon which a detailed cast figure of Christ is mounted. Behind the head is a halo, a classic element within Catholic devotional art.

Due to the large suspension loop at the top, this type of cross was intended to be worn on a chain or rosary, or used as a religious devotional piece. Its relatively large size gives it a distinct presence, and it was often used for personal devotion or processions.

The metal has developed a beautiful warm patina over time. The construction with small rivets on the back and the combination of wood and metal are typical for religious objects from the early 20th century.
