Chinese Longgui Dragon Turtles on Yuanbao | Feng Shui Statue | 12 cm
A richly detailed Chinese feng shui sculpture featuring three dragon turtles, or Longgui, brought together in an ascending composition. The creatures combine the body and shell of a tortoise with expressive dragon heads, claws, and scaled details.
The Longgui is a well-known creature from Chinese mythological imagery that brings together the attributes of the dragon and the tortoise. The motif is associated with strength, protection, prosperity, and longevity. The three figures rest on a richly detailed base with traditional Chinese yuanbao, boat-shaped gold ingots that further reinforce the symbolism of wealth.
The sculpture is crafted from a heavy cast composite material with a deep black-reddish brown finish. The dragon heads, scales, shells, claws, and individual ingots in particular give the compact sculpture a striking amount of relief and character.
The sculpture shows clear signs of use and age. The top small figure is missing part of its head, and there are chips and damages scattered across the piece, especially around the base. A decorative curiosity where the rich design and mythological symbolism remain well-expressed despite the damage.
