Bavaria Porcelain Cup-and-Saucer Set - U.S. Zone Germany c. 1945-1949
This porcelain cup and saucer set from Bavaria, Germany, dates from the immediate post-war period (ca. 1945-1949) and bears the characteristic mark “Made in U.S.-Zone Germany”. This type of marking was used for only a few years and makes the tableware historically easy to place.
The floral decor is executed using an underglaze transfer technique, a common method for this period, after which the porcelain was finished with subtle gold accents along the edges and handles. This combination provided a sophisticated appearance as well as durability, consistent with export quality.
The set consists of three cups and two saucers. One cup has a slightly different handle shape, which may indicate a production variation or a later addition. This contributes to the authentic, lived-in character of the set.
An atmospheric and historical object that is both decorative and collectible, and fits perfectly within an interior with an eye for detail and history.
