Complete Roman Missal - H. Proost Turnhout 1922
Compact French-Latin Catholic missal from the interwar period, published by Établissements H. Proost & Cie in Turnhout. This beautiful edition of the Paroissien Romain Complet likely dates from circa 1922 and combines extensive liturgical content with a refined leather binding.
The dark reddish-brown leather features a gilded religious monogram with a cross on the front cover. The spine also bears the title Paroissien Romain in gold. The book has gilt edges all around, and inside are decorative green, cream, and ochre-colored endpapers.
The 532-page prayer book contains the masses and services for Sundays and major religious holidays. The liturgical sections are printed partly in parallel in French and Latin and are complemented by religious illustrations and ornaments.
The book has a well-worn but attractive antique appearance. The leather shows wear along the spine, edges, and corners, and the ribbon marker is frayed. Immediately after the first endpaper, the binding is partially split, while the rest of the book block is firm. The pages show normal age-related yellowing, which is more pronounced at the back.
