Lying Deer | Handmade Wood & Metal | 25 cm

A distinctive vintage deer sculpture in which dark wood and decorated metal are brought together into a single piece. The deer is lying with its legs along its body and features a striking metal head with high-rising antlers. With a length of approximately 25 cm and a height of 23 cm, the sculpture has a substantial size and a strong silhouette.

The wooden body has a dark finish, where natural wear has revealed a warm reddish undertone in several places. A wide decorative metal band is wrapped around the body, featuring engraved floral motifs and finely crafted geometric edges. The metal head, neck, and the separately formed antlers also display the minor irregularities characteristic of artisanal craftsmanship.

The combination of woodworking, shaped metal, and engraved decoration is consistent with Indian decorative handiwork from the second half of the 20th century. Visible signs of use and the discoloration of the metal give the sculpture a lived-in character and highlight the different materials and techniques.
