Victor Hugo - Les Misérables | Old Illustrated Anniversary Edition of Dagblad De Echo
A heavily used copy of De Ellendigen by Victor Hugo, the Dutch edition of his world-famous Les Misérables. This illustrated anniversary edition was published by N.V. Dagblad De Echo and contains numerous classic black-and-white engravings throughout the book.
This copy clearly bears the marks of its history. The binding and the text block are heavily worn, several signatures and pages are loose, and especially at the beginning and end, the original binding has largely lost its integrity. The middle of the book has remained better intact, and the text is still clearly legible there.
Furthermore, old newspaper clippings and personal papers have been preserved between the pages at the back, including a family notice from 1959. These were not originally part of the edition but remained with the book as traces of its later use.
