79 Park Avenue - Harold Robbins - Luitingh Publishers, Laren, c. 1974
A stylish vintage edition of 79 Park Avenue, the successful novel by American writer Harold Robbins. This Dutch edition was published by Uitgeverij Luitingh in Laren and translated by H. de Graaff.
This copy is notable for its understated white linen publisher's cloth. The spine features gold lettering and horizontal decorative lines, while only the small gold Luitingh emblem appears on the front cover. A strikingly understated edition for a Robbins novel, whose books were later often published with colorful illustrated covers.
79 Park Avenue was originally published in 1955 and is set against the backdrop of New York. It centers on Maryann Flood, whose life story eventually leads to a court case in which she comes face to face with a man from her past. In the novel, Robbins combines crime, social contrasts, ambition, and the dark side of American urban life.
The book is in good vintage condition. The text block is firm and remarkably clean. The light fabric binding shows some discoloration and signs of wear, including a few small stains. There are some old names/notes in blue ink inside the book. The dust jacket belonging to this hardback edition is not present.
