Franklin Porcelain Japanese Teacup | Kachō Jūnikagetsu | 1985
Vintage Japanese porcelain teacup from 1985 by Franklin Porcelain, from the limited series Kachō Jūnikagetsu, or "Flowers and Birds of the Twelve Months".
This version features a distinct autumn motif of Japanese maple, momiji, with leaves turning shades of yellow, orange, and red. Several waterfowl fly among the whimsical branches. The combination of birds and seasonal plants aligns with the Japanese tradition of kachō-e, which focuses on nature and the changing of the seasons.
The fine white porcelain is decorated in polychrome all around. The warm autumn colors are framed by characteristic cobalt blue geometric decorative bands and fine gold-colored rims.
The underside bears the original Japanese Franklin Porcelain mark with the series name 花鳥十二ヵ月, the designation for the limited edition, the year 1985, and JAPAN.
Part of a twelve-piece collector's series, with each cup featuring its own flower and bird representation.
