Louis Francis – Blanc | Gallimard 1934 | Numbered 27/220 | Half-Leather Binding
Special numbered edition of Blanc by the French writer Louis Francis, published by Gallimard in Paris in 1934. The novel was awarded the prestigious Prix Renaudot that same year.
This copy belongs to a special edition of only 220 numbered copies, printed on Alfa Navarre paper and, according to the colophon, specially reserved for Sélections Lardanchet. This is copy number 27.
The book is bound in a fine leather binder's band with leather corners and marbled boards. The spine features five raised bands and gilt lettering with the name of Louis Francis and the title Blanc. The marbled endpapers match the decorative marbled paper of the binding. It also features a gilt top edge and a woven ribbon marker.
Inside the front cover is an original Lardanchet bookstore sticker from Lyon. This is particularly fitting for this edition, as the colophon explicitly states that the numbered edition was produced for Sélections Lardanchet.
The originally dark green leather spine has discolored strongly to brown due to prolonged exposure to light. The binding also shows normal signs of wear and tear and local wear consistent with its age. The interior is lightly to evenly yellowed but appears well-cared for.
