A beautifully bound French history book from 1887, with a special connection between the French royal house and the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague.

Gazette de la Régence contains historical reports from the years 1715 to 1719, a turbulent period during which France was governed by Regent Philip II, Duke of Orléans, following the death of Louis XIV.

The publication is based on an original eighteenth-century manuscript that was preserved in the National Library in The Hague. The French historian Édouard de Barthélemy prepared this edition, supplemented with historical notes and an extensive index of names.

The reports offer a glimpse into life at the French court, political intrigues, diplomatic developments, and social events during the Regency.

The execution of the book also deserves attention. The brown leather spine features raised bands, gold tooling, and decorative frames. The marbled covers are complemented by exceptionally colorful endpapers in red, blue, green, and cream.

An attractive nineteenth-century book for enthusiasts of French history, historical literature, and classic bookbindings.
