Franklin Porcelain Japanese Teacup | Kachō Jūnikagetsu | 1985

$21.00

Vintage Japanese porcelain teacup from 1985 by Franklin Porcelain, from the limited series Kachō Jūnikagetsu, or "Flowers and Birds of the Twelve Months".

This piece is richly decorated all around with blooming chrysanthemums in pink, white, and orange-red, interspersed with several small birds. The chrysanthemum, known in Japan as kiku, is a classic motif in Japanese art and is closely associated with the autumn season.

The nature motif wraps around the cup and is framed at the top and bottom by characteristic cobalt blue geometric decorative bands and fine gold-colored accents. The combination of the fine white porcelain, the detailed floral decor, and the birds aligns with traditional Japanese kachō-e, art focusing on flowers and birds.

The underside bears the original Japanese Franklin Porcelain mark with the series name 花鳥十二ヵ月, the limited edition designation, © 1985 FP, and JAPAN.

Part of a twelve-piece collector's series, with each cup featuring its own unique flower and bird depiction.
