Behind the head is a halo, a classic element in Catholic devotional art.

Due to the large hanging eye at the top, this type of crucifix was intended to be worn on a chain or rosary, or used as a religious devotional object. Its relatively large size gives it a striking presence and it was often used for personal devotion or processions.

The metal has developed a beautiful warm patina over time. The construction with small rivets on the back and the combination of wood and metal are typical of religious objects from the early 20th century.

A distinctive religious object that is both historically interesting and highly decorative within a collection of religious or devotional objects.

Specifications

Type: Devotional crucifix / rosary pendant

Period: ca. 1900-1920

Material: Brass / metal with wooden core

Depiction: Christ on the cross

Construction: Riveted

Height: ca. 16 cm

Width: ca. 7 cm

Suspension: Large metal eye

Condition: Good vintage condition with patina and signs of age

https://ziggyswarehouse.com/en-si/products/grote-antieke-devotionele-kruishanger-christus-corpus-ca-1900
