The Woman and Her Prayer | Kevelaer 1959 | Vintage Prayer Book with 10+ Devotional Cards

A remarkably well-preserved Catholic prayer book from 1959, complete with a personal collection of over ten vintage religious holy cards that have been kept between the pages for years.

De vrouw en haar gebed (The Woman and Her Prayer) was compiled by H. Sanders O.F.M. and published by Butzon & Bercker in Kevelaer. This 1959 second edition was specially compiled for the faith life of the Catholic woman and contains over 350 pages of prayers, liturgical texts, and reflections on topics including the Holy Mass, marriage, work, Mary, illness, and the end of life.

The compact book has a black flexible binding with gold-colored spine lettering, all-gold edges, and a cream-colored ribbon marker. Inside, the texts are interspersed with religious photography, illustrations, and beautifully designed pages in black and red.

Extra special about this copy is the collection of more than ten loose holy cards that come with the book. The various prints depict, among other things, Mary and Child and other Catholic scenes, and originate from various religious publishers and institutions. Together, the book and cards form a beautifully preserved piece of Catholic devotional culture from the mid-twentieth century.
