State Bible ca. 1900 | Half-Leather Binding with Marbling | Nederlandsche Bijbel-Compagnie

An imposing Dutch Staten Bible from circa 1900, published by the Nederlandsche Bijbel-Compagnie and printed by the renowned firm Johannes Enschedé en Zonen in Haarlem.

This complete edition contains both the Old and New Testaments according to the historic Staten translation. The classic binding is particularly attractive: executed in brown leather and marbled paper, with leather corners, decorative blind stamping, and a spine with raised bands. Despite its age, the gold-stamped title BIJBEL and the small ornament on the spine are still clearly visible.

The substantial text block has been remarkably well preserved. The binding is sturdy and the pages are mostly clean, with only limited signs of age. The leather parts of the binding show wear and patina along the spine, edges, and corners, consistent with prolonged use and the age of the book.

Between a few pages, later added religious text cards have been preserved, a small trace of the personal use of this Bible.
