Merijntje Gijzen's Youth: The Betrayal - A.M. de Jong - Second Edition - Querido 1926

An early edition of a classic of Dutch literature: Het Verraad by A.M. de Jong, the first part of the cycle Merijntje Gijzen's Jeugd. This copy was published in 1926 as a second edition by Em. Querido's Uitgevers-Mij. in Amsterdam, just one year after the first edition in 1925.

The novel tells of the youth of Merijntje Gijzen and his special friendship with the reclusive stroper De Kruik, against the backdrop of Brabant countryside life. The cycle was a great success and grew into one of A.M. de Jong's best-known works.

This early second edition is issued in a dark linen publisher's binding with extensive gold-colored decoration and lettering on the front cover and spine. The book is in fairly good condition for its age. The binding shows normal wear at the edges and corners and the paper is discolored due to age. On the half-title page are old library stamps, including a marking showing that the book was later removed from the collection.
