Charles Dickens - David Copperfield & Nicholas Nickleby - Illustrated Editions - N.V. Gebr. Graauw Amsterdam / Surabaya – c. 1930

These interwar editions of Charles Dickens were carefully crafted and printed, richly illustrated, and built to last for generations. The covers are sturdy and very beautiful, and they were also acquired for both their decorative value and the value of the great name that is Charles Dickens, someone who contributed a great deal to literature in every way imaginable.

They were published by N.V. Gebr. Graauw (Amsterdam - Surabaya) around 1930, and thus also carry a piece of Dutch publishing history from the colonial era, which is an interesting time for books, when translations of all kinds of authors were not as widely available as they are today.

Original cloth bindings, with detailed brown-colored drawings on the covers. They feature wood engraving prints after F. Barnard, which are special and full of detail; these books are complete with all illustrations well-protected by the hard covers and the quality of the paper they are printed on.
