Hand-carved Soapstone Bowl with Lions – Africa, c. 1980

Characterful hand-carved soapstone bowl, featuring a decorative safari scene.

The bowl is shaped from a single piece of stone, with subtle tool marks visible on the surface. These give the piece an authentic and artisanal character that you do not find with molded ceramics.

The warm, mottled stone colors provide a natural base for the applied decor of lions in a landscape. The combination of craftsmanship and decoration makes this a striking object with both material and visual layering.

Due to its weight and solid construction, the piece feels robust, while the slight imperfections in shape and finish contribute to its charm.

Suitable as a decorative bowl, but also beautiful as a standalone object or wall display.
