Vintage Japanese porcelain teacup from 1985 by Franklin Porcelain, from the limited series Kachō Jūnikagetsu, or “Flowers and Birds of the Twelve Months”.

This piece is decorated all around with a refined Japanese nature scene of two red-crowned cranes amidst gnarled pine trees. One crane stands on an old pine branch, while the second is depicted on a rock beneath the overhanging branches.

The scene aligns with the Japanese tradition of kachō-e, in which birds and plants are the central focus. The combination of cranes and evergreen pines is also a classic Japanese motif traditionally associated with long life and prosperity.

The detailed nature scene is framed at the top and bottom by cobalt blue geometric decorative bands and fine gold-colored accents.

The underside bears the original Japanese Franklin Porcelain mark with the series name 花鳥十二ヵ月, the designation for limited edition, © 1985 FP, and JAPAN.

Part of a twelve-piece collector's series, with each cup featuring its own unique flower and bird depiction.
