The World War 1914-1918 - Reichsarchiv Volume 1 - E. S. Mittler & Sohn, Berlin 1925
An imposing German military-historical work from 1925, published as the first volume of the official Reichsarchiv series Der Weltkrieg 1914 bis 1918.
This substantial volume, Die Grenzschlachten im Westen, covers the mobilization and military operations on the Western Front during the initial phase of the First World War. More than 700 pages document the German advance and the battles in, among other places, Belgium, Luxembourg, Lorraine, and Northern France, supplemented by numerous detailed military maps, diagrams, orders of battle, and overviews within the text.
The book is bound in a heavy burgundy cloth binding with gold-colored lettering and the Reichsarchiv emblem. Unique to this copy are the historical library stamps from the Wehrkreisbücherei XI Hannover. Later stamps indicate that the book was officially withdrawn from the library collection.
In the back is the original pocket for the separate map material. The loose maps that were originally supplied with this edition are no longer present. The many printed maps, diagrams, and military overviews within the book itself are present.
A substantial, now antique interwar book with an interesting military library provenance and a wealth of original historical documentation.
