A particularly comprehensive Roman Catholic Missal and Vespertorial Book with explanations, compiled by Dr. L.J. Daeleman and published by Henri Proost & Co. in Turnhout. This substantial edition from circa 1940 combines the Catholic liturgy of the Mass, Vespers, prayers, and ecclesiastical feasts in one compact volume of approximately 1,820 pages.

The texts are included in both Dutch and Latin and comprise, among other things, the Masses from the Missale Romanum, the Vespers for Sundays and feast days, and the proper of the feasts of the Dutch and Flemish dioceses. The book thus forms an interesting document of Roman Catholic devotional practice and liturgy from before the Second Vatican Council.

The neat finish is particularly fine. The compact book is bound in black grained faux leather with a gold-colored spine title and a blind-stamped religious monogram on the front cover. The full page edges are finished in red and gold and have retained their shine remarkably well. Inside are decorative endpapers with a repeating IHS monogram and three colored ribbon markers.

Religious illustrations, ornaments, and liturgical depictions are included throughout the book. The imprimatur was granted in Mechelen on September 21, 1939; the included table of movable feasts begins in 1940.
