French Catechism book by Abbé Dupanloup, c. 1860
A beautiful 19th-century French catechism book by the well-known clergyman Abbé Félix Dupanloup, published in Paris by F. Rocher. This antique work contains an extensive collection of catechism lessons, prayers, hymns, and liturgical texts for Catholic education and personal devotion.
The book is bound in a neat half-leather binding with red edges and beautiful hand-marbled endpapers. In addition, it contains a fine steel engraving of L'Assomption. Tucked between the pages are a few original 19th-century devotional inserts that have likely been preserved since the time of the first owner.
The book block has remained predominantly solid. The first page is partially loose, and the binding shows normal signs of wear consistent with a book over a century and a half old.
An atmospheric French church book that fits perfectly into a collection of religious books, antique libraries, or classic interior decoration.
