Terracotta Wall Plaque Lion - Zodiac Sign - c. 1960-1980

Round vintage terracotta wall plaque featuring a relief depiction of the zodiac sign Leo. The lion is shown standing with a striking, detailed mane and the inscription “LEEUW” at the bottom.

The warm terracotta color is combined with dark accents in the recessed areas of the relief. This highlights the lion’s mane, paws, and contours in particular. The back is unglazed and shows the natural texture and firing marks of the earthenware.

Likely made between the 1960s and 1980s, a period when ceramic wall decorations and complete zodiac series were popular. The maker is currently unknown.

A metal hanging hook is attached to the back.
